Welcome to Virginia Industries for the Blind

Twenty years ago Virginia Industries for the Blind (VIB) provided employment opportunities to blind Virginians in two cities, Richmond and Charlottesville. We became synonymous with a workshop culture, most notably providing mattresses and pens to our government customers. A lot has changed over the past two decades. Today, VIB is still creating opportunities for blind Virginians in Richmond and Charlottesville, but we now provide services and operations in Alexandria, Arlington, Crystal City, Falls Church, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Petersburg, Rosslyn, Salem and Virginia Beach. VIB has expanded beyond our manufacturing roots with skilled, trained people in retail operations, postal functions, switchboard operations, kitting, contract management and court debt collections. Our Charlottesville facility is ISO 9001 registered and we are expanding this internationally recognized quality management system to other VIB operations.

VIB has always been about jobs, but we now have a much wider array of employment options, providing pathways to exciting career opportunities. Our mission, which is “to employ and develop Virginians who are blind, visually impaired or deafblind to achieve their desired level of employment through the manufacture and delivery of quality products and services”, focuses on the two most important aspects of our agency; our customers and our 150 plus employees. As part of the Enterprise Division of the Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI) we are also in a unique position to assist in providing a number of vocational services as well.
